COOPER WEBB - GRIT 244 450SX

GRIT-244 |450 SX

May 20, 2024 9:45 am

After a thorough series of practice sessions while stationed in Indianapolis, Cooper Webb's initiation to the main event would begin around the sixth-place standing. Making passes that were notable, including around Chase Sexton and Shane McElrath, the Yamaha athlete then zeroed-in on the Kawasaki of Jason Anderson as less than four minutes remained. The two would go bar-to-bar when rounding the corner after the multi-plateau section, with Webb nearly making the pass "stick" per se, but being countered by Anderson who somehow remained within the third-place standing. The defense of Anderson was something to be credited, but Webb was becoming frustrated...which ignited a brilliant cut-down move before the "SX" triple with just over three minute son the clock. Now into third, he would have to refute the charge of Chase Sexton as well; who remained in fifth, but would move to fourth after passing Anderson shortly thereafter around the whoop section. Webb remained steadfast in the bronze medal registry, until an unfortunate collision in the longest rhythm section (with Cade Clason) would fling he and his motorcycle off track. Now deterred to eighth, his will to succeed couldn't be nullified with what little time remained on the clock...and as the Yamaha rider eventually crossed the finish line (in eighth) the points salvaging position was enough for him to stay with the "picture" per se for a solid overall score. Beginning the second segment in seventh, he was up to fourth by lap four after passing that of Chase Sexton, Justin Barcia, and Aaron Plessinger, respectively. However, Sexton would pass him on the ninth circuit after leaping to the inside of his Yamaha in the longest rhythm section...though immediately thereafter, they both surpassed Jason Anderson as he began to fade (briefly). Now into fourth, he would sustain this standing until just under two minutes were left to transpire - when Plessinger leapt forward from the outside (nearly clipping the right side of his bars) but somehow managing to make the pass! This diverted Webb to fifth, where he resided as the checkered flag waved shortly thereafter. Into moto-three the field would go, and as Webb began the race in fourth, his pace was nearly equivalent to that of Chase Sexton. He stayed behind the KTM athlete for a significant amount of time, and even as the Illinois rider began to distance himself, they both would lessen the distance between themselves and Ken Roczen. Webb's charge to the front seemed to embody fury, and though he didn't eventually overtake the Suzuki rider as the checkered flag waved, his confidence certainly radiated en route to a final standing of fourth, for fifth overall on the evening.
