COOPER WEBB - GRIT 242 450SX

GRIT-242 | 450 SX

Yamaha's Cooper Webb was an athlete that couldn't be discredited upon arriving to Daytona. He'd remained a legitimate player for championship quests for numerous years now, and would always have to be factored-in, as a betting favorite for any particular race he'd registered for. His practice times in Florida were solid, yet the racer aboard the number two machine was striving for more as heat race festivities neared. Upon flying from the gate(s), he made his way into a position of ninth in the early going while his urgency translated into phenomenal corner speed. Flying through the beach(y) section with his Yamaha engine revved to the highest extent, he would be pursued by that of Jason Anderson after making a pass on the fourth circuit of action...however Webb was far from done, and knew that another position could be garnered via Honda's Dean Wilson on the fifth (and final) circuit. With little time to spare, he plunged into the array of ruts in the multi-plateau section just after the whoops, gripping the chassis with all of his strength while eventually making his way around the native Scottish rider. Now fifth, he would exit the raceway behind Dylan Ferrandis as the checkered flag waved. He was near the seventh place position to begin the main event, and would battle with Aaron Plessinger for a significant amount of time as they approached the halfway point. Both he and "AP" could see Dylan Ferrandis in front of them...and as the tandem strove to overtake the Honda rider, Plessinger would unfortunately crash to the ground. All the while, Dylan Ferrandis (too) would make a mistake after he'd passed Ken Roczen...and as the German rider began to fade (slightly), Webb proceeded to counter and attack on the opponent who's pace had slowed. This led to Webb creating a pass on Roczen for fourth, before the latter "SX" triple amongst the right-handed bend (with one lap to go) - the North Carolina native would secure fourth in the standings. Though the podium was out of reach, Cooper continued to jump through the myriad of singles that were around the track while hooking his way through the various inside grooves - demonstrating composure amongst the chaotic racecourse as the checkered flag waved in the distance. With the trio of leaders passing the final jump before him, Webb's ability to persevere amongst the fourteen-lap main event was a means to keep him within the championship fight...claiming fourth, as all was settled in Daytona.
