GRIT-241 | 450 SX
With many in the industry believing that this was a pivotal round for championship contention, Yamaha's Cooper Webb approached the Arlington SX circuit with a means of capturing as many points as possible. Every lap, from practice to the races thereafter, was crucial in gathering knowledge - and Webb was one of the best in analyzing a particular circuit and how it broke down. Therefore as gates crashed for the second heat race of the evening, no one was surprised to see the Yamaha rider contending for the hole-shot designation! Seat-hopping his way into the converging rhythm lane, all seemed to be well for the athlete aboard the number two machine...but things did begin to happen rather quickly. Cooper wasn't processing the initial sprint speed like his fellow combatants, and would reside fourth for the first portion(s) of action while the top three (of Jason Anderson, Jett Lawrence, and Malcolm Stewart) broke away. Once into a formidable pace, Webb then remained here as minutes continued to pass - methodically advancing his way to the finish line through lap ten, where he advanced to the main with a gate choice within the first ten selections. For the finalé, Cooper's clutch release and position through the opening corner would help him acquire a standing of second...which immediately portrayed a rejuvenated/rebound performance compared to his previous heat race. He was clinging to the rear wheel of Jett Lawrence, and staying within a few seconds of the Australian as laps began to progress. Moment by moment, Webb wasn't faltering or fading - staying calculated and waiting for a mistake on the behalf of the number eighteen machine. The attrition displayed by Webb was commendable, where he continuously cut-down amongst the rutted corners and leapt through the moguls with a reiterating sense of self belief. As the ten, and fifteen minute mark(s) would pass, Webb was aware of what his mechanics were putting on the pit-board...expanding on the bigger picture of the championship while precisely leaping amongst the jumps and rutted rhythm lanes. This would lead to a dramatic twist of events on the twenty-fourth (of twenty-seven) circuits...when Lawrence's mistake to the side of the track, would enable Webb to claim the lead! Now into the first-place position, it was a process of retaining the gold-medal spot, when storming to the checkered flag. He nullified the charge of Lawrence, which forced the eighteen-machine into another mistake...to ultimately claim the victory in a dramatic conclusion!
