COOPER WEBB - GRIT 240 450SX
May 18, 2024 · Cooper Webb

GRIT-240 | 450 SX
At this point in his career, Yamaha's Cooper Webb could never be counted out. Time and time again, would the former SX champion prove that he was always a contender for the highest of feats; and when attacking the track for practice in Glendale, Webb's demeanor reflected an attitude of immense determination. He was proficient when leaping through both, extended rhythm lanes, flying into the corners thereafter with little regard for fear. Once exiting the raceway, Webb's placement within that of heat two would be a critical initiation to the night show that followed. As gates fell and the pack surged into the opening bend, Webb would use an abundance of speed to amass a sixth-place residency as the green flag waved. He followed Jason Anderson as far forward possible (initially), which enabled him to move ahead of Shane McElrath...though the process of sustaining a flow that replicated Eli Tomac and the Kawasaki rider (who were both ahead) would be rather difficult. Webb wasn't giving up though, continuing to display improved whoop speed with multiple blitzing lines aboard the Yamaha 450. Hunter Lawrence was an opponent who was gaining speed, and with the number ninety-six now ahead of the North Carolina native, the task of overtaking the Honda rider was anything but easy. Webb remained engaged and persistent amongst the multitude of sections on the raceway...but would have to settle for fifth as the final flag waved. As the field aligned for the main event, all who were within championship contention yearned to push their machine(s) to the top of the leaderboard. Knowing that every aspect of the racecourse would have to be executed with the utmost precision, Webb would make his way into sixth immediately - while running Jett Lawrence a bit wide, in the opening sand section. The fight for a top-five continued amongst he and multiple Honda's, including Vince Friese (who Webb would run wide). After gaining the position, he would subsequently lose a spot to Jett and Hunter Lawrence, near the mechanics area not long thereafter. Now sixth, he wouldn't hang onto the standing permanently; with Dylan Ferrandis now moving forward, too. Another standing lost (on behalf of Chase Sexton) would push Webb to eighth...but Webb was going to continue charging, as if the championship depended on it. Lap after lap, he remained engaged with the racetrack and competition - making a late race charge, with less than one minute on the clock, to overtake Chase Sexton for seventh! Residing here as the final flag waved in the stages that followed, Webb's ability to accumulate a strong result under adverse circumstances was certainly admirable.
