COOPER WEBB | GRIT-223 | 450MX
With a prestigious Thunder Valley circuit now upon him, Cooper Webbembodied the energy from the crowd as he gathered a multitude of laps together for practice. Knowing that there was little time to waste as he sped to the finish-line time and time again, there was consensus hypothesis that he was going to be battling for an overall podium as all would conclude in Colorado. And that trek would begin as the green flag waved for the first 450cc main event of the afternoon, where he burst from the starting line with a release of the clutch and into the first corner without hesitation. Flying amongst the hillside in the seconds thereafter, he would do his best to try and pass the Honda of Jett Lawrence immediately, while residing in second place. But the various outside attempts were thwarted on behalf of Lawrence's speed, which resulted in Webb remaining solidified in second for the first few laps of action. There were also instances when Adam Cianciarulo would attempt to capture the line of the KTM rider...but Webb's resiliency wasn't going to let his amateur rival more forward, as minutes continued to transpire. Webb was confident in the runner-up category, but strove to reel-in Lawrence - though the Australian rider was on a pace of his own, while breaking away from the field. Webb would take subtle glances behind him and across the track to see his KTM teammate Aaron Plessinger working his way through the field, but it would be too little to late on behalf of the number nine and seven ride(s). Therefore Cooper would obtain one of his strongest positional finishes of the year, via second-place in this particular moto. The following segment would have Webb beginning the moto in fourth, while having to deal with the likes of Aaron Plessinger and Dylan Ferrandis who surrounded him. They were all in "attack-mode" per se, while trying to work their way around Grant Harlan as quickly as possible. Two and three-wide at times, it was Webb who eventually worked his way into fourth by lap two, and then third in the circuits that followed after passing Adam Cianciarulo. Webb was sound in this position until lap eight...when one of the most valiant efforts we'd seen in quite sometime (on behalf of a privateer) would be on display, as Ty Masterpool closed in on the KTM rider. Eventually gaining ground in the section(s) near Eli Tomac's crash year's ago, Masterpool would make the move on the former Supercross champion which pushed Webb to fourth on lap eight. Dylan Ferrandis, as well, was able to make his way around Cooper in the minutes thereafter...pushing Webb to fifth. Once here though, he was able to keep Adam Cianciarulo at bay for the remainder of the fifteen-lap contest; garnering scores of second and fifth (in the final moto) to accumulate a third-place overall on the day.
