COOPER WEBB | GRIT-207 | 450SX
Contending for the 450 SX championship, Cooper Webb knew the importance of having a successful performance amid the fourth round of the 2023 series. His rivals, Eli Tomac and Chase Sexton, were exploding onto the raceway time and time again; and Webb's infiltration of the top-five was imminent from this point forward if he hoped to acquire gold by season's end. He would contend amongst the fellow stars of the division for practice, proving that his prowess was on point when leaping through rhythm lanes and the treacherous sand section. His attitude would radiate with confidence, and seemed to carry into the heat race as well. This was a catalyst for initial lead, though Jason Anderson was eager to move past the number two as quickly as possible. Webb's slight mistake (on the backside of the tunnel jump) would allow Jason to work around in the section of jumps to follow; putting Webb into the runner-up position, with Aaron Plessinger and Dylan Ferrandis now behind him. Cooper wasn't going down without a fight, and would contest all of the aforementioned opponents with determination and drive; fighting as if he were competing for the championship, prior to making yet another unfortunate mistake on the tunnel jump. This would allow Plessinger around in the laps afterward, where Webb would do his best to latch onto the Ohio native from then on...and as he crested the finish-line in third, Cooper knew that he would have to attack the track in the main event with the same aggression. He would run inside the top-five to begin the twenty-minute quest, but all action would be halted as Dylan Ferrandis was forced off the track due to an unfortunate injury; causing the roster to reassemble on the start straightaway, From that point, Webb would eye the number seven of Plessinger with an intent to make a pass; but the opportunity was never secured. Meanwhile, Justin Barcia would hound the KTM athlete with his usual aggressive antics, passing Webb; but Cooper wasn't one to give up. This left Cooper in sixth, with time beginning to expire, though Barcia's crash would allow him to inherit fifth in the final stages. Many could sense that he wasn't extremely happy with his fifth place accrual, but when examining the bigger picture, he retained a generous sum of points. This would be what was needed in regard to the championship, and Webb would move ahead in his 2023 SX quest looking to obtain his highest of accolades.
