CHASE SEXTON - GRIT 250 450SX

GRIT-250 | 450 SX

June 3rd, 2024 6:30 pm

Illinois' Chase Sexton seemed prepared for the hard-packed surface that was presented in Colorado as engines revved for practice, surrounded by a multitude of exceptional competitors that were aiming for the highest of finishes. The set-up, and synchronization that he had begun to configure with his chassis was certain to translate to admirable speed for the night show...and was presented, with a clinching of third-place on the green flag circuit. He was behind Vince Friese, while Jett Lawrence led the field around. Though moving around the Missouri native on the second circuit, he would aim for that of the rear wheel of the Honda rider who was leading the pack around. Though Jett was riding exceptionally well, and proceeded to flow throughout the eight-lap contest with minimal faults - while Sexton resided in the runner-up standing, from the second lap onward. At the checkered flag, the native of the Midwest flew over the final double in the silver medal residency...hoping for redemption in the finalé that was just on the horizon. His crash in the first turn would have him residing in the final position in the running order...but Sexton was charging through the field with fury. He had caught Eli Tomac (who was seventh) after seven minutes of action! Fighting for every inch of racetrack while contending with the Yamaha rider, he finally made the move on the outside of the finish line double with around seven and half minutes completed - taking seventh, with Justin Cooper next to be overtaken. It was around eleven and half minutes in, when Sexton made the move on Cooper, claiming sixth with Webb now next to be surpassed. Once the pass was made on Webb, amongst a multitude of jumping combinations, Sexton attempted to stand on an entrance single of sorts and begin his next rhythm...until an uneven weight distribution caused him to go down! Webb could go nowhere but accidentally over his legs, but Sexton was able to quickly remount after losing only a few spots. He was trailing Malcolm Stewart, and even though the rider aboard the number twenty-seven had fallen to the ground, the KTM rider was unfortunately too far to overtake him as the checkered flag neared. In the end, the Illinois native raced across the finish line with an eighth-place performance - though he proved that his speed aboard the KTM machine was higher than ever before.
