CHASE SEXTON - GRIT 240 450SX
May 18, 2024 · Chase Sexton

GRIT-240 | 450 SX
So far in the series, Illinois' Chase Sexton had been an athlete with what appeared to be a revamped process of racing and an arguable, greater sense of poise when on the motorcycle. He wasn't persistent in always controlling a race winning narrative. If the moto and process of events seemed to fall in his favor, then the former champion would take it...which paid dividends as action in Glendale began. He masterfully wove the track together with fluidity in practice, and embodied a sense of confidence that couldn't be nullified by his opponents, which led to an initial standing of fourth-place being garnered in heat one. Though sustaining a hand injury in the days prior, Sexton vowed to race to the best of his ability and garner as many points as possible. He had lost a position upon the timing and scoring registry to Jett Lawrence by the time the second circuit was completed, but the Illinois resident wasn't fading too far away from the rear wheel of his former teammate. He (Sexton) managed to work his way around Vince Friese a bit quicker than that of Lawrence, which enabled Chase to clench fourth at the halfway point. From that point onward, it was about maintaining composure to the finish line...which was portrayed with the utmost skill - minimizing risk, while earning a bid to the finalé. For the main event, Sexton clicked into gear and would do his best to nullify the damage to his hand, earning a standing of eighth in the opening moments (which was just ahead of Jett Lawrence). After constant shuffling, Chase could sense that Cooper Webb was a bit slower than the pack that he was amongst...therefore the KTM rider would make a move on the Yamaha rider, with around eleven and a half minutes to go, which temporarily solidified him in seventh. He would sustain this position for quite sometime after breaking away from Webb, however, the Yamaha rider wasn't going away that easy...and would actually return to make a pass, with less than a minute to go! In the corners that followed (i.e. before the finish) so too would Malcolm Stewart pass by! Now ninth, Sexton would eventually reside here as the checkered flag was thrown not long thereafter...garnering as many points as possible and hoping to return to one-hundred percent in the weeks ahead.
