Following his incredible display of speed last week in New York, Honda's Chance Hymas was seeking redemption while stationed at the legendary Maryland venue known as Budds Creek. His talent was evident aboard the Honda machine, and as he scrubbed his way through the treacherous and muddy conditions of practice, the athlete from the state of Idaho seemed to continue ascending as action began in moto one. Navigating through the opening lap in the fourth-place position, he would proceed to stalk the rear wheel of KTM's Julien Beaumer. The athlete aboard the number 929 machine was riding superb in the early stages of this moto, but Hymas knew that with enough pressure and persistence, the placement that the Arizona native currently occupied, could eventually be secured. Chance would then eventually overtake Julien Beaumer (on lap six) and proceed to set his sights on Levi Kitchen...and the advancement toward the Kawasaki rider would eventually result in Hymas making his way by, within the turning roller section (just before the finish line). He had then established his machine in second, and seemed to be on his way to claiming the silver medal - until a last minute mistake would deter him to eighth, at the checkered flag! Though rather disappointed in how the first moto narrative ended, Hymas would shift into a competitive mentality once more as racers aligned on the grid in the latter afternoon contest. His body positioning when leaping from the grate was stellar, and equated to a second-place start as the storyline unraveled for this eventual seventeen-lap contest. He was just off of the pace so to speak, of Kawasaki's Levi Kitchen. But he continued to exhibit remarkable speed and ambition, to try and move around the native of the Pacific Northwest. Lap by lap, the gap between the two opponents was rather marginal - but the final push, to try and overcome the distance, could never be actualized by the athlete aboard the number forty-eight machine. Yet, even with Tom Vialle beginning to emerge into the podium scenario within the final minutes of competition, Hymas never wavered. Instead, he fought forward to the finish line to try and conclude the August afternoon on a high note...eventually exiting the raceway with a second place finish for this contest. When paired with his first moto score (of eighth) his accumulation of points would then be enough to solidify him in fourth overall, among 250MX final standings.
