CHANCE HYMAS - GRIT 254 250SX

GRIT-254 | 250 SX

June 10th, 2024 3:30 pm

The number forty-eight of Chance Hymas had shown exceptional traits in all aspects of MX racing thus far in 2024, and carried that persona into Colorado as well. Hymas was on-point in qualification, and made sure to execute when the time called for it, for the two-moto portion of the afternoon program. Beginning the opening race in third, the Idaho native was spotted launching from various singles with his throttle pinned. Landing with a harsh impact at times, there was nothing that could derail his ambition for trying to overtake Tom Vialle (second) and Haiden Deegan, who led the field around. Though roughly eight seconds behind the leader after the ten-minute mark, he remained zeroed-in on the KTM rider ahead...though Jalek Swoll (fourth) wasn't too far behind, and couldn't be disregarded. Hymas was excellent in the rhythm lane behind the starting gate, hopping, tripling, and doubling his way through as the track continued to break down. He would defend a hard-charging Levi Kitchen until only minutes remained on the clock...but a superb inside to outside move, just before the Monster Energy Fly Away jump, was conducted by the Washington native - forcing Hymas to fourth. Once there, Hymas combatted fatigue and the elements of his rugged Colorado landscape...to secure fourth in the final standings, before moving into the latter round of racing. A brilliant start for the Honda rider powered him to the early lead in the second moto, where the number forty-eight took advantage of an open raceway. Even with Haiden Deegan behind him, the Idaho native wasn't bothered and continued to charge forward with spectacular style and speed on the motorcycle. He was in optimal form with thousands of fans cheering him on, and amongst the fifteen-lap showcase, he seemed to be riding in a flow-state of sorts. Minute by minute, the margin over Haiden Deegan seemed to be sustained - with the idea of the checkered flag, being the determining factor in his overall ambition of claiming this moto win. Reading phrases from his mechanic as he passed by the line of Honda supporters, only a small fraction of time would separate him from the pinnacle of the podium. And in the end, it was Hymas who garnered the first moto victory of his career...and with the assembly of four-one scores (over both moto's), the rider out of Idaho would propel to second in the final standings, remaining well within the fight, for a series title!
