CHANCE HYMAS - GRIT 253 250SX

GRIT-253 | 250 SX

June 5th, 2024 3:30 pm

Honda's Chance Hymas would put forth quite the performance in Pala just seven days ago...and the Idaho native seemed to rekindle that sense of speed as the first moto of the afternoon began in Northern California. His momentum in practice had portrayed that he was on-point, and as the field swept through the opening corner of the first moto, Hymas immediate took over the pinnacle position on the leaderboard. He was beginning to break away from Levi Kitchen, Julien Beaumer, and Jordon Smith - with the Kawasaki rider running a definitive second. Lap by lap, Hymas seemed in total command of what was going on around him...breaking away from the field, remaining composed, and hitting his marks with precision. Through the halfway point, and three-quarter mark(s) of the moto, it appeared as if Hymas had a shot at holding onto this accolade. Though as the thirty-minute mark came to fruition, the presence of Haiden Deegan couldn't be denied. On the uphill section just after the start, Deegan's cutting maneuver to the inside would enable the Yamaha athlete forward, while Hymas drifted a bit too far to the outside...leaving him second upon landing from the tabletop at the hill's summit. Though he wouldn't let the move discourage him, and remained in the fight...keeping Levi Kitchen at bay (despite immense pressure from the Kawasaki rider) through the finish line! Obtaining second, the crowd would certainly cheer for the Honda rider. Onto the following moto he would go, where Hymas emerged through the first few minutes of action in fourth. It was sustained through ten minutes, but Tom Vialle's charge across one of the longest downhills on the racetrack couldn't be denied - and Hymas was forced to be crowded to the outside, and descend to fifth in the running order. With ten minutes to go, however, Hymas countered the offensive charge of Ty Masterpool...making a swift pass on the Texan as he then occupied fourth in the running order. Kitchen was now six-seconds ahead, and the Idaho native would constantly attempt to chip away at the margin that the Washington native had created. However, the Kawasaki rider would be just out of reach as the seventeen-lap moto neared conclusion. Sweeping through the final set of switchback corners, after launching from the ski-slope-type single at top of the last downhill, Hymas would cruise through the checkered flag to acquire fourth place for this segment - finishing with an assembly of second and fourth place scores on the day, for a superb, fourth-place overall.
