CARSON MUMFORD | GRIT-221 | SX 250
With the track manicured to the utmost extent, Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki's Carson Mumford was eager to engage in the highest speeds possible while lines were yet to be entrenched into the racing surface. Perfectly tilled and disced soil would comprise the platform in which he and the other 250cc riders competed on; and as he crested the largest uphill on the track, it was almost as if his Kawasaki's exhaust was more distinguished than all others. Flying into the corners of the infield, there was no second-guessing as he kept throttle pinned and his inside leg remaining hovered just inches above the ground. Therefore as he transferred into the moto's that followed, there was little that could be critiqued on behalf of the Simi Valley native's riding style. As the thirty-second board went sideways for moto number one, he would eye the metal pin that kept the bracket in front of his tire upright...waiting for it to fall so he could release his clutch and the accompanying RPM's. Mumford would fight throughout the first lap, hitting the double-double section after the step-up with authority and doing everything in his power to keep the power to the ground. There would be a brief occasion or two, when he actually looked to pass that of Hunter Lawrence; though the Australian would put up a significant fight, and ultimately defend the position from the number fifty-two.Aggressive body movement and scrubbing were constantly being portrayed by Carson in order to keep the chassis low on the highest jumps, and by the time the twelfth minute of action would arise, it was evident that he had the speed to contend for an overall top-ten. The right-handed corner that was on the bank of the hillside (prior to returning to the infield) would be deteriorated with pot-holes and differing grooves, that would kick the rear-end of countless chassis as they flew back to the "inbound territory." Though he would fly from the makeshift tabletop/double and look ahead to see none other than his teammate Ryder DiFrancesco near eighth place as the clock continued to expire. This would keep him moving forward and grasping for furthered position as the final three laps of action came to fruition...and as all was said and done, the formidable effort on behalf of Kawasaki's Mumford would equate to eleventh. There was a prolonged period of rest in comparison to moto's last year, therefore he would take the surplus of down time and use it to his advantage; defying all odd's as he hit the timing and scoring sensor inside the top twenty to begin the second moto. His speed within the infield switchback section (where Jett Lawrence thrived in the 450cc moto) would be some of the strongest of the division, as he nearly clipped the inner most hay-bales while trying to avoid the largest braking bumps. His sixth and seventh circuits on the track were pivotal in pulling away from fellow Californian Talon Hawkins, who was initially nipping at his rear wheel. But the Husqvarna opponent who once attempted to overtake him would eventually fade as the twenty and twenty-five minute mark would pass. And As the moto concluded, it was Carson who grasped eighth, to be finalized in tenth overall, respectively.
