CARSON MUMFORD | GRIT-220 | SX 250

For the 250cc East/West Showdown, all in attendance knew that the action on the track would be fierce and full of intense battle(s) from start to finish throughout the afternoon and evening program(s). And Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki's Carson Mumford was ready, and appeared locked-in on the process of establishing his presence on the race-track, from the inception of the green flag for the first time(d) practice session. Hitting the whoops with a blend of technicality and fearlessness, the way he could wheelie into the first mogul and proceed to keep the chassis skipping across the rollers that followed that was phenomenal; and translated into an immediate transferring bid into the unique heat racing format, where he was positioned into his specific West Coast division. Clicking into gear prior to the metal bracket in front of him falling, his reaction time as the pin would unlatch would be exceptional with a timely clutch release and outpouring of throttle twisting that had him positioned near a third-place standing on lap number one. The California native was throwing caution to he wind as he scrubbed the tunnel-jump after the finish-line, landing on the throttle and accelerating around the corner that followed with his sight(s) set on the inner most pathway. The soil was already beginning to break away (due to precipitation falling), and the absence of traction was evident as he was weighting the outside of the foot-peg on his pristine Kawasaki machine. Keeping an eye on ClubMX Yamaha's Enzo Lopes who trailed, he would do his best to leap from the on/off after the whoops with a precision on the plateau (though forced to jump over the tabletop at times, as well) while keeping the Brazilian rider who was previously noted, at bay. This would progress into an epic final two laps of competition, where his emphasis of charging to the finish line would be granted with a notable fourth-place outcome, after only being passed by Jett Lawrence. For the main event, many in the crowd would focus their attention on the aforementioned Lawrence brother(s), who were a focal point of showdown's like this...but Mumford couldn't be ignored, and would leave many in disbelief as he scrubbed the "SX" triple over the first few laps of action, despite the takeoff being entrenched with ruts! The right-handed bend that followed was a pivotal point where he could distance himself from the Honda machine of Florida's Cullin Park who was (roughly) two-seconds behind him when approaching the sixth lap of action; however it was near the halfway point where Mumford began to distance himself from those outside of the top fifteen and truly lunge forward (for a top-ten overall) amongst this clashing of coasts. He would sprint across the start straightaway in the final segments believing that he could retain the tenth-place position that was eventually secured, leaping across the line with a feeling of accomplishment to conclude his 2023 "SX" season.
