BENNY BLOSS | GRIT-217 | SX 450

Yamaha's Benny Bloss had steadily continue(d) climbing throughout the leaderboard amongst the 2023 SX Championship; proving that the Missouri native possessed immense talent, while accruing year's of experience at the premier level. He would come into the round of East Rutherford knowing that the soil was going to be challenging, but few in the industry could have guessed what was going to transpire as the day progressed in the NYC metro area. For practice, Bloss was smooth and polished on the throttle; seat-hopping his way through the largest rhythm lanes on the track, with his patented rolling speed that wasn't too flashy, but helped him obtain countless significant lap-times prior to moving into heat race action. As gate(s) then fell for the divisional round, Bloss' ability to process line choice and throttle control while battling with names like Jason Anderson, Justin Barcia, and Eli Tomac, would be phenomenal. He would reside fourth for nearly half of the moto, prior to descending to fifth where he and teammate Grant Harlan were paralleled with pace. Bloss would then proceeded to flourish amid the last two laps of competition, running lap times in the forty-nine second range and gathering an eventual overall position of fifth prior to advancing to the finalé for the evening. His optimal gate choice would allow him to exhibit an astounding starting sequence when flying into the first corner of action, where Bloss would battle for a position inside the top three! He was just behind Eli Tomac and proceeded to engage in his own pace of sorts, while the top-three would break away. Defending his fourth place standing from that of Chase Sexton and Cooper Webb, his pace was applaud worthy until a slight mistake would have him descending through a number of positions on the leaderboard. But the number forty-four refused to quit, and would surge forward lap after lap with an unwavering focus amongst the rutted canvas. The frame of his Yamaha would nearly drag in certain sections, toggling between the inside and outside of the split-lane where the jump faces were beyond deteriorated...but Bloss' aptitude on the 450cc was world-class and remained on a forward-moving trajectory while keeping riders like Justin Hill and Dean Wilson at bay. This would lead to an eventual eighth-place finish that was exceptional given the competition and circumstances of the track, giving Benny quite the confidence boost as he and the rest of the 450cc brigade move into the final rounds.
