AUSTIN FORKNER - GRIT 239 250SX

GRIT-239 | 250 SX

Displaying incredible speed in the weeks prior, as well as day-time qualifying for the round of Detroit, Kawasaki's Austin Forkner idled to the line for heat number one ready to engage for the lead from the moment action began. Rounding the first corner with clear vision, Forkner would have Daxton Bennick pressuring him rather early. But Forkner remained composed and continued to put forth an admirable effort while sustaining strong lap-times as the track became a bit more deteriorated. Smooth as one could imagine when cresting the camelback triple before the mechanic's area, he would look to his mechanic over the course of the moto to see where Bennick (who remained in second) stood. There was little that could bother the Missouri native as he stormed into the final two laps of action, scrubbing the double after the finish line upon taking the light flag...knowing that if he could remain upright amongst the sponge-like transitions, that a magnificent heat race win was obtained. Shortly thereafter, it was the Kawasaki athlete who took the checkered flag with confidence, heading to the podium feeling rather refreshed prior to embarking on the main event - where a spectacular gate choice awaited him. He used the aforementioned slot as a means to rocket from the line and never look back, taking an early lead while a multitude of opponents quarreled in the dust behind him. Passing by the green flag with immense speed, Forkner had to toggle between sprinting away from the field, while also staying aware of what was at stake and his methodical process of training which was acquired in the months prior. He could sense that of Chance Hymas remaining close, but never feeling as though the Idaho native acquired a momentum shift of sorts. This was the foundation that the number sixty-four rider needed as pressed toward (and passed) the halfway point, continuously hitting his marks while remaining on a perfect trajectory toward victory lane. Regardless of what lapped riders or yellow flags were thrown his way, Forkner remained calm and present - flowing from rut to rut while staying with a realm of comfortable speed, as the twenty-first lap neared completion. Ultimately leading from start to finish to take this Detroit win, the momentum that Austin generated couldn't have been higher - which was the championship path he desired, as round two appears on the horizon!
