The #229 of Mitchell Harrison is no rookie to racing the most prestigious amateur motocross race in the Nation. Harrison will be making his debut in the Open Pro Sport and 250 A classes, with the fastest kids amongst the nation, all having the same goal, to WIN. We caught up with the Team Green Kawasaki backed athlete to see how he plans to glorify his visit to the ranch by leaving with a #1 plate.
Mitchell Harrison: My home Base is at Georgia Practice Facility but i like to move around everywhere so I'm not just in one place, been going to MotoX Compound a lot. And my off the bike training has been amazing as well, me and Justin Boyd have been working together and I feel better than ever. I Don't want to give out what I do specifically but just know that I'll be stronger than ever going into Lorettas ready for war!
MP: Aside from the racing part of Lorettas, what other things do you enjoy doing while you're there?
Mitchell Harrison: I really enjoy Bridge Jumping, and just cruising around hanging out with friends i dont see that much. Its like a big Family gathering at Lorettas, i feel like i know so many people its insane. I Just love the Vibe there!
MP: What's your favorite part the track?
Mitchell Harrison: The sand sweeper. Im a big fan of the sand that what i grew up in so its so much fun just to hop around putting the bike wherever i want it, just no worries.
MP: It's your turn to line up for staging, the nerves start kicking in, how do you prepare yourself when lining up to the gate?
Mitchell Harrison: I like to do a good warmup as close as I can to motos, really get the blood pumping. When I'm on the line I don't like to listen to music or talk to people I just like to be in my own head thinking about every little thing I'm going to do. Be in the zone.
MP: How has this year treated you so far?
Mitchell Harrison: This yeah has been very good for me, I've have had some ups and downs but more ups than anything. But the top spot is where I want to be so never truly satisfied till I'm there.
MP: What's your goals for the rest of this year?
Mitchell Harrison: I plan on doing Monster Cup and Mini Os, I don't really know what is going on after that but my goals are to ride the best that I can and win.
MP: How did you first get into this sport?
Mirtchell Harrison: I saw Ricky Carmichael on TV one day I vividly remember that. And I was just so fascinated that I had to get a dirt bike! I got my first Bike at the age of 6 and it was a PW 50 I was so excited!!! My first Race was at 7 years old at this race near my house called Milan, I didn't do too great but man was it a lot of fun. And that just sparked a passion that carrys on till this day!
MP: Besides racing, what other things do you like to do in your free time?
Mitchell Harrison: I Love to play Tennis and soccer, just a bunch of us after riding or on the weekends pack up and head to the soccer fields and tear it up! We also go to the creek a lot and jump off trees.
MP: What's the most challenging obstacle that comes with racing?
Mitchell Harrison: The Mental Part is the hardest thing because you constantly put yourself in your own way and doubt your abilities, so the mental game is the biggest thing in this sport.
MP: If you could describe yourself using one word, what would it be?
Mitchell Harrison: Positive
MP: Out of all the places you have rode, where is your favorite place to ride?
Mitchell Harrison: For sure my favorite place I've ever rode is James Stewarts house. I love the Sand and the big jumps. Its kinda like a dream when i ride i feel like im always in that flow zone.
