Local Michigan rider John Rooney has plans set high for the 2015 season. We had the chance to catch up with John and see what he has in store for us this season. From battling injuries, to balancing work and moto, Rooney is preparing for what could be “his year”. MP peeks into what it’s like balancing reality, life and moto on a budget.
MP: Digging back into the archives, you were 2011 Michigan D-14 Open B champion. Building off of that, what are your main goals you want to accomplish this year?
John: I was at the track a lot that year, let's say that. I want to improve on my speed and endurance, and live a dream of mine.. to make it to Loretta's in the A class. I would like to try and make a few pro Canadian nationals as well!
MP: You’ve heard of the Amsoil Arenacross series which actually just made a stop in Grand Rapids, Mi. Is this something we might see John Rooney at in the upcoming years?
John: It's definitely something I would be interested in! I would like to try and get my pro license in the next few years, and I know that the Amsoil Arenacross is a great stepping stone and now a requirement. I am hoping that sometime soon I can give it a shot!
MP: For a local amateur, it sounds like you have an intensive year ahead of you. are there any sponsors or people you would like to thank for getting you where you are today?
John: Yes! But there are a few people that have made a huge impact and helped me out. I would like to thank CMP, Sir Pizza, Exodus Ride Shop, Team YumYum (Derek Parsons), and Tech-Care Development. All have contributed more than I could ever ask for and I can't thank them enough for that, and of course my family!
MP: Again, best of luck in 2015 and thank you for talking to us! We hope to see you at Loretta’s!
John: No problem! Thank you guys, I hope to see you at some races soon!
