Jayce Pennington, rider of the #131 KTM bike, made his debut at the ranch in Schoolboy 1 and Schoolboy 2. Coming up short on capturing a title, Pennington isn't backing down yet and plans to keep on pushing until he's on top of the box. We caught up the Illinois native to see how things went at Lorettas from his perspective and to see what he's got up his sleeve for the rest of this season.
haha, but I plan on getting back at it the beginning of September down at Ronnie Tichenors in Palm Harbor, FL. But normally my training consists of riding at GPF or with Ronnie. At Ronnies, I usually get in a bike ride or something after riding. While at GPF I do that or get in a workout with my MotoE trainer, Roman.
MP: Lorettas, how did it treat you this year?
Jayce Pennington: Well I got there Thursday and just met up with all my friends and hung out, went bridge jumping, swimming and just having a good time. Then sign up on Sunday then I kind of cooled down getting ready for practice the next day. Practice went alright for me. I forgot my transponder so I had my mechanic time me and I think had the fastest time in schoolboy 1. In schoolboy 2 on the 250 the track was soo gnarly and rough and I was not going fast haha, I felt like it was my first time riding. For my first moto of schoolboy 1 I got a second place start and first place crashed in front of me, and crushed my exhaust so I didn't really have much power but I ended up getting 11th in that. Then in my second moto I passed up to 3rd and crashed on the second to last lap and ended up getting 7th which isn't bad, I can't complain about that. But in my last moto I got the holeshot on Mitchell Falk and I think we rode the whole race in 1st and 2nd but I ended up having a 10 second lead on him the last lap and a 30 second lead on 3rd but that was a good/fun race. And In schoolboy 2 I had decent luck every moto ended up going 5-9-13. I just got a bad start the last Schoolboy 2 moto. I had a lot of fun with my friends and family.
MP: Give us a recap of your year so far and how everything has went for you.
Jayce Pennington: Well my first few months started out rough with a broken wrist but I got back on the bike around the beginning of March. Since then it has pretty good, I had a little trouble with my bikes and had a few crashes at regionals but I got qualified and everything so that was good. Then at camp boom diggity I ended up making a dumb mistake and crashing and got a concussion and hurt my leg/foot. So I took about 10 days off the bike and had a week and a half of training for Loretta's but I ended up getting 2 5ths so I was satisfied with that.
Jayce Pennington: Honestly I think it's being mentally strong and trying to push yourself harder than everyone else.
MP: Besides racing, what else do you like to do in your free time?
Jayce Pennington: Well haha, lately I've been trying to get my parents to let me get a shifter kart but they're not into it, but I like playing basketball, and swimming, and just hanging out with my friends, and doing stuff to get my adrenaline up.
MP: Out of all the places you rode, where is your favorite place to ride?
Jayce Pennington: A private track in Florida called Elevation Alley!!
MP: Finally, who would you like to thank for helping you out?
