Coming from the stompin' grounds of Motoplayground is the #218 of Dawson Kaub from Ottawa, KS. Kaub has been rippin' on his KTM backed by Letko Cycles. With only 3 years of experience on a dirt bike, Kaub had an impressive showing at Freestone last week where he was battling in front of the pack all week, brining home top 5 finishes in 4 different Novice classes. At only age 15 Dawson will be one to watch out for in near future. His wrist is locked, the throttle is pinned, and with his Dunlop tires throwing roost, he doesn't plan on letting up anytime soon.
MP: How did you get started into the sport of motocross?
Dawson Kaub: My dad and his cousin rode/raced when they were younger and every year since i was 5 years old we went to St. Louis Supercross to watch the races and I always wanted to ride but didnt really have the money to afford it, then when I turned 13 a month later I got a kx85 for Christmas and its been a great journey since then.
MP: You raced at freestone last week, walk me through your week and how it went
Dawson Kaub: Freestone was awesome and another great experience. Raced 5 C classes and managed to finish in the top 5 in each of my classes except one due to a chain brake first moto. Next year I will be racing B class there so hopefully I can put some good results in.
MP: The B class is always stacked with lots of talented riders. What preparations do think are needed in order to run up front next year?
Dawson Kaub: First off I'm gonna need the right mind set and going to need to be able to motivate myself to get better each time I ride. As soon as school gets out in may I am going to a training facility until Lorreta's and after Lorreta's I plan to start home schooling and staying at a training facility year round to get me the speed that I need to be able to compete with the top guys. I feel like for only riding 3 years and being able to podium in national events that with some good help that I can progress very quickly.
MP: It sounds like you have come a long ways in 3 years, what kind of training do you in order to compete up front?
Dawson Kaub: First off I attend all the Motoplayground Boom Diggity and Fall Diggity's which are such great help and so fun! But mostly I just ride every single week as much as possible and its paying off.
MP: Out of all the tracks you have rode on which is your favorite?
Dawson Kaub: KC MOTO is my favorite track. The dirt is awesome, it has all the obsticals that you need in a track, and track owner Geremiah Gilliland is an awesome dude!
MP: besides racing what else to do like to do with your free time?
Dawson Kaub: If I'm not doing anything that has to do with motocross, I'm hanging out with friends/family. But 90% of the time every day after school I'm doing bike work or riding.
MP: What are your goals for this year and what races/ series do you plan on racing?
Dawson Kaub: My goal is to train as much as possible to make me a better/faster rider and I will be racing some Oklahoma and Missouri state series races and all of the big nationals.
MP: Who are all the people behind you, and helping you make your dream become a reality?
Dawson Kaub: Seven Mx, Dunlop, Letko Cycles, Bike Works LLC, FMF, 100% goggles, Troy Lee Designs, Acerbis, Matrix Concepts, Bell Helmets, RDRSPLY, Motoplayground, MX343, Odi Grips, Factory Connection, Midwest Rv, Central Rv, Bike Graphix, G&G restoration, my mom and dad, my grandpa, and most of all the Lord Jesus Christ. Without any of them none of this would be possible!
