There’s a renowned amateur motocross rider bringing his name to the forefront of numerous conversations, and he goes by the name of Josh Varize. A Californian, whose efforts on the racetrack are reciprocated in every aspect of his life, is determined to make a run for the rest of 2017, and the foreseeable future. We were fortunate enough to catch up with Josh, and see what he’s been up to.
You began riding dirtbikes at a very young age; were you riding bicycles long before that? Or was it an immediate jump onto the motorcycle?
I began riding two wheels at the age of 2. I actually immediate jump on and rode a motorcycle before a bmx bike.
How’d your first race go?
Man, my first that was a long time ago. Let me see, if I remember I went to Sacramento Raceway and they held motocross races every other Friday Night. I remember I got a great start and finished top three.
Any symbolism behind the number 24?
The 24 symbolize's the date I was born.
It seems as though you and the KTM brand gel very well together; how long have you been aboard the orange machines?
KTM bikes are so sick! They are powerful machines and they are race ready right out the box! I've been aboard KTM bikes since Senior 50's.
You had solid results in Texas, for the spring championships earlier this year; how do you feel you performed?
Yeah, my results from Texas were solid. I just got released to full active race duty from being injured at Mini O's. So definitely was stoked on how I did.
Excelling at your area qualifiers, were you pleased with your finishes so far in 2017? Excited for regionals?
I've been very pleased with my finishes so far this 2017 season and very excited for the Loretta Lynn's Regional Championships.
You were ultra-consistent at the JuniorMotoX event; are you a fan of the indoor setup for this event?
The JuniorMotoX Event was a lot of fun! I like the indoor set up especially when it rains, just like it did. I definitely recommend going next year!
The Monster Energy Cup, seems to go well for you every year; are you a Supercross guy? Or do you prefer the outdoor style track?
Monster Cup! O Boy! That's by far my best event next to Loretta Lynn's. I like them both, outdoors is fast and Supercross is tight, and technical.
What are your Goals/Plans for the rest of the year?
My goals are to stay healthy, strong, and win championships.
Where do you do the majority of your practicing throughout the year?
Pretty much practice most of the time at Milestone MX, Perris MX in CA, and MotoX Compound in GA
What’s your training regimen look like off the bike? Weights? Cardio?
Yes everyday when I'm home in Riverside, California I go to a place called Crossfit Kindle where we do weights and cardio.
Any professional’s style you try to replicate?
I do look up to a lot of professionals, but my style comes to me naturally.
What do you to take your mind off of racing? Anything to help you relax and get away from motocross for a little while?
My mind is off of racing when I'm doing Home School. Being with family and friends on a vacation away from a track is my most relaxation.
