If you’ve had the chance to attend any amateur national so far in 2017, or in the past few years for that matter, chances are you’ve heard a name echoed throughout the P.A. system, that of a young man who goes by Ryder DiFrancesco. Once the helmet’s strapped on, he’s a sly operant who diligently attacks each and every race course in which he chooses to compete; he and his machine categorized as a “green blur” as fans can hardly determine his identity with the amount of raw he speed he possesses as he storms along the fence line. Off the bike, however, he’s a kind-hearted, normal guy from California. We were fortunate enough to have the opportunity to sit down with Ryder, and capture some information on the number 199.
At what age did you take interest in motorcycles? How old were you when you got your first bike?
I took interest in dirt bikes when I was old enough to sit in the shop and watch my dad work on bikes. I got my first motorcycle when I was three years old.
First Race Memories?
My very first race was when I just turned four. It was a WORCS race in Hollister Ca. I remember them sending us up in the hills and having so much fun. I also remember my dad being so worried about me because he thought we were just going to do the motocross track.
How did you choose your race number? Any symbolism behind that?
I chose the number 199 because we are friends with Travis Pastrana and I really really liked him when I was little. My parents told me I had to call him and ask him if I could run his number, he said yes, but make sure I went fast.
You rode well at the FMF Cal Classic this year, how do you feel that event went for you?
The Cal Classic went great; I won two titles there. I struggled with my starts in the beginning of the week, but in the second and third motos I had them dialed. The track was super, super rough. I had a fun time.
What’s been the coolest part about being sponsored by Jimmy John’s? Favorite Sandwich?
The coolest part about being sponsored by Jimmy Johns is knowing that Jimmy Johns is also Kevin Harvick's main sponsor. I like being able to go to Jimmy John conventions, and getting to be around Jimmy. I really like the sandwiches my favorite is a number two.
How have you felt about your performances at your area qualifiers? You’ve rode solid at Glen Helen, DT1, and Arizona Cycle Park.
I felt great racing all of my Loretta Lynn areas. It's awesome knowing I'm on a team that has the best equipment and support. My Kawasaki is always so fast and set up perfect!
What’s your favorite type of terrain to ride on?
My favorite terrain would be rough rutty tracks; the rougher the better for me.
With the array of tracks you have the chance to ride in California, which one is your favorite and why?
My favorite tracks in California would be the Dt1 track because of the dirt and ruts; I also like Zaca because it has it all.
How does it feel to be friends with stars such as Kevin Harvick?
Since I've been with KHI I've got to be around a lot of great people, like Kevin Harvick of course. UFC fighters Cowboy Cerrone and Miesha Tate, country music singer Jake Owen and PGA golfers like Jason Gore and James Hahn. They are all awesome people and we always have a fun time together.
What are your Goals/Plans for the rest of the year?
My goals and plans for the rest of the year are to train hard and try to win as many nationals as I can.
Is there any professional’s style you replicate, or any you look up to?
I feel I have a riding style like Jason Anderson, I really look up to him and Eli Tomac.
What do you like to do when you’re off the bike? What makes you take your mind off of racing for a bit?
When I'm not training or racing I like to golf, skateboard, fish, drive RC cars and hang out with my friends.
Any sponsor’s you’d like to thank?
My sponsors are awesome, thank you to these sponsors, Jimmy Johns, Kawasaki, Team Green, pro circuit, Dunlop, Troy Lee Designs, Scott, 6d, beam design, traxxas, ethika, New Era, Bad Boy buggies, pro moto billet, maxima, renthal, BKE and my mechanic Ikua Hughes.
